Kiva: Brand Redesign

Brand redesign for Kiva, a non-profit microlending organization that supports entrepreneurs from developing nations. Through the exploration of business and design strategies associated with brand development, I came up with three solutions to aid in Kiva's success:
1. Personalize the lending experience.
2. Operate transparently.
3. Unify and strengthen visual identity.

The Kiva brand redesign began with identifying the problem with the brand and implementing a solution. Deliverables included logo design, brand toolkit, website, typography and color palette, business system, and marketing collateral.

Kiva's visual identity is influenced by photography, a playful color palette, and circular graphics, which represent the lender/entrepreneur relationships within the Kiva loan cycle.

CReSIS Work

“CReSIS is a Science and Technology Center established by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2005, with the mission of developing new technologies and computer models to measure and predict the response of sea level change to the mass balance of ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica. NSF’s Science and Technology Center (STC) program combines the efforts of scientists and engineers to respond to problems of global significance, supporting the intense, sustained, collaborative work that is required to achieve progress in these areas.”

CReSIS provided me with opportunities work with a variety of faculty from different disciplines. In my Graphic Design work at the Center, I collaborated with world-class scientists and engineers from the US and abroad. I have produced an array of visual material encompassing everything from research brochures for scientific professionals to educational hand-outs for K-12.

Synchronized Beauties

In this animatic, a group of satisfyingly plump synchronized swimmers are working their magic in the ocean until it is eventually revealed that a hungry shark is circling the ladies. These beauties rely on their quick wit and unique expertise to foil the fish. I designed a set of instructional cards featuring synchronized swimming moves to accompany the animation. Each card gauges difficultly levels, gives formation pointers, and includes tips on how to pull it all off.

Maine Oyster Fest

The Maine Oyster Fest is a long-held (and much-loved) New England tradition for both locals and tourists alike. However, their previous collateral materials needed some revitalizing. The new design identity is a reflection of that celebration mixed with a hint of elegance. The result is a clean, hand-worked identity system for the event. The intricate line work is drawn by hand and evokes an aquatic look and feel to the identity.
